Overview

Grip is a gamified digital wellness application tailored for Indian adolescents (ages 13–19) and their ecosystems. It bridges the digital-physical gap by pairing emotional awareness with behavioral interventions, transforming an exhausting, hyperconnected routine into an intentional, self-regulated digital lifestyle.

Challenges

Over 70% of the 250M+ Indian adolescents navigate an "always-on" digital environment, with significant percentages experiencing compulsive screen addiction and problematic internet use (PIU).
The UX challenge was to build a system that defuses the severe psychological triggers of FOMO, constant comparison, and parental friction without resorting to easily bypassed, restrictive app blockers.

Solutions

An emotion-centered, gamified ecosystem featuring reflective mood check-ins and calming prompts before popular social platforms open. By introducing a reward-driven tier structure (Activities, Leaderboards, and Parent-supported incentives), the app successfully gamifies behavioral detox, turning mindless scrolling into a conscious choice to step away.

Designing for dual personas (the resistant teen and the anxious parent) proved that digital wellness must rely on mutual trust rather than authoritative restriction. True behavioral shift happens at the systemic level—by introducing friction right at the moment of compulsive triggers, we can successfully replace negative digital habits with deliberate, offline real-world interactions.
